This report described the work experience of a nationally-representative sample of 12,000 Americans who were age 14-21 when first interviewed in 1979 and who have been surveyed annually since then. Chapter One evaluates outcomes for post-school participants in government employment and training programs; special attention is given to selectivity bias. Chapter Two describes early labor market differentiation among terminal high school graduates. Chapter Three analyzes business cycle effects on college enrollment behavior. Chapter Four provides a descriptive analysis of welfare patterns among young mothers, and Chapter Five discusses the effect of demographic factors on schooling and entry Wages.
