NIOSH Comments to DOL on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Request for Information and Notice of Public Information Gathering Meeting on Occupational Exposure to Formaldehyde by J. D. Millar, February 25, 1985

The testimony is offered in response to a request for information from NIOSH regarding documentation of worker exposure to formaldehyde (50000) and the suggested criteria for safe handling. The documents transmitted with the testimony include the Criteria for a Recommended Standard, Occupational Exposure to Formaldehyde, and Current Intelligence Bulletin No. 34, Formaldehyde: Evidence of Carcinogenicity. NIOSH has no information beyond that found in the previous recommendation and continues to recommend that formaldehyde be considered a potential occupational carcinogen and treated as such. NIOSH believes that OSHA has sufficient documentation to support rulemaking and to promulgate a more protective formaldehyde standard.
