Army Tactical Command and Control Information System Concepts for an Architecture for Distributed Systems

Distributed ADP systems are becoming increasingly popular for aiding military command and control, but the prospect of a large number of independently procured, non-interoperable distributed ADP systems within a single theater cannot be viewed with equanimity. The paper proposes an architecture for distributed ADP systems which will not act as a constraint on performance or equipment selection, but which will provide a firm basis for ensuring that all systems developed in accordance with the architecture will be inherently interoperable. The architecture is described in equipment-independent terms, but some possible implementation concepts are given as examples.
