The report presents results of a testing program that had two distinct phases: the establishment of the effect of testing machine compliance upon the strain-softening of fiber reinforced concrete; and the demonstration of the fact that reinforcing rods provide a degree of stiffness to adjacent fiber reinforced concrete (in those cases where fiber reinforced concrete is used in conjunction with steel reinforcing) such that the local matrix exhibits an improved strain-softening characteristic. In essence, in the latter case, a certain synergism is obtained that could lead to improved overall structural performance.
