The purposes of the Minerals Management Service (MMS) Gulf of Mexico OCS Regional Office's annual Meeting are: To provide a forum for 'scoping' topics of current interest or concern, relative to environmental assessments or studies in support of offshore oil and gas activities in the Region; to present the accomplishments of the MMS Environmental Studies Program for the Gulf of Mexico. The workshop included: Deep sea studies; physical oceanography; development and use of ecological models; marine data archiving and indexing; current studies in underwater archaeology; environmental concerns; socioeconomic effects of offshore oil and gas activities; loss of coastal wetlands; and commercial fishing.
