摘要

The bauxite industry is of crucial economic importance to Jamaica accounting for over 60% of its foreign exchange earnings. The country has estimated reserves of about 2 billion tons of bauxite. In 1980 the Government opened discussions with the UN Financial System for Science and Technology for Development to finance a project aimed at providing modern laboratories and a pilot testing plant at the JBI.
