Physicians' Practice Costs and Income Survey (PPCIS): U.S. CY 1983-1985. User's Guide and Codebook

The Users Guide is an introduction to the 1983 Physicians' Practice Costs and Income Survey (PPCIS) conducted by NORC, a Social Science Research Center, affiliated with the University of Chicago under contract to the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). A total of 4,729 physicians were interviewed in the survey, with a weighted response rate of 68%. The 1983 PPCIS, conducted between October 1984 and June 1985, represents part of the government's effort to evaluate and develop policy in the light of rapid changes in health care. In particular, the study was designed to assist HCFA in evaluating its physician reimbursement policies.
