Report on Data Protection and Privacy in Seven Selected States

The report describes the privacy protections in effect in seven selected states in the U.S., along with the extent of personal data collection in the states, with particular emphasis on 'computer matching' at the state level. The study describes the trend of privacy protection in the states generally, then describes the information collection, the matching, and the use of identifiers at the state level. This is followed by descriptions of privacy protection and matching in seven selected states--California, Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Texas, and Virginia. The report concludes with a comparison of the various states, to determine whether progressive privacy policies have much effect on personal data collection and on computer matching.
