Removal of Arsenic from Water by Continuous Granular Carbon Adsorption Process

摘要

The feasibility of using granular activated carbons (GAC) of soluble arsenic from storm run-off water was experimentally demonstrated. Up to 0.5 mg/l of soluble arsenic (+5) was totally removed from water by a continuous granular carbon adsorption process at the following process conditions: granular activated carbon, DARCO 20 x 40 by Astro Chemical Inc; detention time, 10 minutes; superficial velocity, 10.47 cm/min; hydraulic loading rate, 10.47 ml/min/sq cm; granular carbon bed depth, 100 cm; and initial pH 8.5 units. Dissolved air flotation and sand filtration were proven to be excellent pretreatment processes prior to the GAC process.
