摘要

The solvation dynamics of electronically excited 3-aminophthalimide and 4-aminophthalimide were investigated using picosecond, time-resolved, emission spectroscopy. The results show that: (1) the rate-limiting process for the solvation dynamics of these molecules is the dielectric relaxation of the surrounding solvent molecules; (2) the excited-state solvation dynamics can be predicted from the known longitudinal dielectric relaxation rates of the solvent; and (3) the solute molecules are static while the solvent reorganizes around them. These findings constitute the first direct measurements of solvation dynamics that can be directly compared with the predictions of the various theoretical treatments of the solvation process.
