摘要

The abrasive environments in most mines and mineral processing plants cause equipment to wear rapidly. The Bureau of Mines is conducting research to enhance the wear resistance of iron-base alloys. The report describes the results of investigations on two methods for (1) incorporating hard-material particles within steel castings and (2) fusing hard-material particles to the surfaces of steel castings. In the first method, a hollow steel electrode is packed with hard particles and vacuum-arc-melted into an ingot. A second electrode is made from the ingot, vacuum-arc-melted, and cast into a mold.
