Assessment of the Accuracy of the Faculty Roster at Selected Medical Schools

The study evaluated the accuracy and completeness of the Faculty Roster, a computer-based system initiated by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and supported in part by the Public Health Service to inventory faculty and collect data on their characteristics. It is updated with information voluntarily reported by the medical schools. Information developed from the Faculty Roster provides the AAMC, the medical schools, and federal agencies with a basis for planning and decision-making relative to national health manpower needs. Data from 850 individual faculty members at eleven departments of internal medicine were used for this evaluation of the completeness, currency, and accuracy of the data contained in the AAMC Faculty Roster Database. The study found that the completeness and currency of the AAMC Faculty Roster varied a great deal among the eleven departments of internal medicine surveyed.
