Case Study of On-Farm Adaptive Research in the Bida Agricultural Development Project - Nigeria

The Bida Agricultural Development Project (BADP) was begun in 1980 with funding from the Federal Government of Nigeria (25%), Niger State government (39%) and World Bank (36%). The objectives of this five-year project are to raise agricultural production by 25% and to increase farm income. These are to be achieved by providing farm inputs such as fertilizers, credit, tractor hiring services, and extension information, by developing low-cost irrigation schemes, and by constructing feeder roads for the transport of surplus farm products.
