摘要

The paper presents the probabilistic models of steel beams and columns necessary to determine the strength reduction factors for such members designed to the new LSD draft rules proposed by the subcommittee for member design BD 1/1. The models are based on the actual performance of members as presented in experimental reports. The appropriate strength reduction factor is determined by comparing the safety indices of beams and columns designed to the current AS 1250 rules with the safety indices of beams and columns designed to the proposed draft rules for a range of possible values. The calibration presented herein is limited to hot-rolled universal sections (Grade 250) as produced by BHP (1982). Wind load effects are not considered.
