The coastal zone in the State of Florida faces an impending crisis. In the 15 years between 1960 and 1975 the population of Florida approximately doubled from 4.9 million to 8.5 million, increasing at a rate of nearly 24,000 people per month. It is anticipated that most of these will settle is defined regional centers with along the shoreline or in major populational nodes within the interior of the state. Collier County would not exhibit the attractiveness that it does, an attractiveness which has resulted in the county becoming one of the fastest growing areas in the entire United States.
