Final Design of Automated Pavement Crack Measurement Instrumentation from a Survey Vehicle

The report describes an instrument designated as the Automated Crack Monitor (ACM) for measuring cracks in roadway surfaces. The design presented is based on video technology. Two video cameras are utilized to provide a resolution of approximately 1.2 mm over a field of view of 3 ft. laterally by 2 ft. longitudinally. A high intensity xenon strobe light is used to freeze the images while traveling at speeds of up to 40 mph.
