President's Malaria Initiative: Sixth Annual Report to Congress, April 2012. Executive Summary

This report outlines the extraordinary steps the U.S. Government has taken on behalf of the American people to save lives and help control malaria in Africa. We have seen tremendous success against malaria, thanks to an infusion of resources, innovation, and political will. Ending malaria as a major killer of children is now considered possible. In 2011, we commissioned a comprehensive external evaluation of the first five years of the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), FY 2006-FY 2010. The final report concluded that 'PMI is, by-and-large, a very successful, well-led component of the U.S. Government Global Health Initiative.' This is largely a result of the hard work and dedication of PMI staff at the country level and the strength of our partnerships with national malaria control programs, other donors, and nongovernmental organizations.
