St. Christopher and Nevis: Economic Report

The report is based upon the work of an IBRD mission to St. Christopher and Nevis in October 1984 and provided assistance to the mission on the public sector investment program. The economy of St. Christopher and Nevis experienced a slackening of economic growth in 1983, as a result of difficulties within the sugar sector. However, with strong growth in the tourism sector and improved sugar production, the performance in 1984 was much improved. Continued future growth of the economy will depend upon a gradual diversification away from sugar production, toward tourism, enclave manufacturing and other forms of agricultural production.
