Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Pulverizing Equipment

Portland cement concrete (PCC) breaking is most commonly performed with gravity drop hammers, trailer mounted diesel hammers, spring arm hammers, and vibrating beam breakers. About 3,200,000 sq. yds. of PCC will be recycled in the 1985 construction season. Considering the condition of pavements in the United States, the current recycling quantities, and the expected growth of recycling, fifty to one hundred equipment units will be required in twenty years to break or pulverize PCC pavements. Funding for new equipment development has been slow to develop. The federal and/or state governments may have to include several large projects in a single contract to provide the volume of work necessary to pay the 'front end' costs for innovative equipment development.
