El Salvador: Fisheries Development Outlook, 1985

摘要

El Salvador's fishing industry consists of two major sectors: a modern, export-oriented shrimp industry and underdeveloped, traditional or 'artisanal' fishing. It is the fourth largest source of export earnings, yet it currently contributes less than 1 percent of El Salvador's gross domestic product. Several factors have hindered the industry's development. Nevertheless, prospects for the industry's future are promising if there is improvement in the factors which presently restrain development, if aquaculture's potential is realized, and if the industry continues to modernize.
