摘要

Appreciable differences existed in water mass distributions along the edge of the continental shelf as interpreted from satellite infrared imagery and shipboard temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen observations. In general, shipboard indications of water mass distributions based on salinity and dissolved oxygen values were compatible, but the discontinuities observed were not as marked as those indicated by satellite imagery and evidenced a more southerly dispersion of shelf water. Chlorophyll concentrations and zooplankton volumes were appreciably greater over the continental shelf. Nanoplankton/netplankton ratios were greatest in oceanic waters.
