Development Impact of the Food-for-Work Program in Bangladesh

The development impact of the Food-for-Work (FFW) program in Bangladesh is examined in the report. Specifically, the report documents the impact of 5 types of agricultural infrastructures on agricultural production, household income and capital formation, the labor market, employment, consumer expenditures, and nutritional status. Results indicate that FFW projects, if properly selected, designed, implemented, and maintained, can have a substantial and positive impact on village economies and should thus be regarded as a way to build long-term rural infrastructures rather than solely as a vehicle for short-term economic relief.
