Systems Aspects of Cross-Disciplinary Engineering Research

One of the goals of NSF's engineering research centers is to change the culture of engineering research and education at American universities through an emphasis on the 'systems approach' to contemporary engineering. The report attempts to explain the systems concept and to define the 'systems aspects' of engineering research education, and practice. It examines relevant programs planned or in place at existing engineering research centers, and discusses in general ways in which the centers can facilitate the attainment of these goals.
