Attivita e Impegno dell'Istituto Superiore di Sanita nella Lotta Control il Cancro. (Activities and Commitment of the Istituto Superiore di Sanita in the Fight Against Cancer).

Cancer is a global issue and a major public health problem, which profoundly affects both industrialized and developing countries. The Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS) (the Italian National Institute of Health) has developed over the years different and deep knowledge and skills in basic research, epidemiological and translational oncology. At the end of 2006 the President of the ISS has promoted the creation of an Interdepartmental Group in Oncology (GIO) in order to connect all the resources of the ISS with interdisciplinary expertise in basic research and preclinical and other activities relevant to translational and clinical research, including those on regulatory and ethical issues related tumors. This represents a review, although not exhaustive, of the many activities of the ISS in the field of oncology. All these activities were presented and discussed at a workshop organized in ISS December 14, 2011.
