摘要

The report summarizes the results of static and navigation tests conducted in the Boston, Massachusetts area during the period of January through April 1985 and also in August 1985. The objective of these tests was to gather data to determine the viability of the GPS system, Standard Positioning Service (SPS), as a 'stand alone' terrestrial radionavigation reference. Companion LORAN-C data were obtained to provide an evaluation of comparative system performance. The study concludes that GPS cannot serve as a 'stand alone' radionavigation system in urban environments characterized by multiple highrise buildings. In less 'hostile' environments, GPS was observed to be an effective radionavigation system with position accuracies exceeding those obtained with LORAN-C.
