Virgin Islands Fisheries Development and Demonstration Project (Fourth Year) Exploratory Fishing for Deepwater Crustaceans

The report contains detailed information on the distribution, economic feasibility and commercial significance of deepwater benthic invertebrate resources in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thirty-nine exploratory fishing trips were made from May to December, 1985 resulting in 42 sets with 198 traps. Fishing was carried out at depths ranging from 150 to approximately 450 fathoms. The study concluded that deepwater crustacean resources are not sufficiently abundant in the localities sampled to support a commercial fishery.
