A multigrid method for the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations is described. A finite volume method on a non-staggered grid is employed. The inviscid terms are discretized with a flux-splitting method. The multigrid strategy consists of nested iteration followed by V-cycles. Smoothing is done with collective Newton-Gauss-Seidel iteration. Results are given for a sequence of subsonic and transonic cascade flows. Multigrid iteration is found to be between 3 and 4 times faster than single grid iteration on a 96x32 grid. (Copyright (c) 1986 by Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Delft, The Netherlands.)
