Fully Automated Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring of Hypertension

A discussion of fully automated ambulatory blood pressure monitoring of hypertension (ABPM) is presented. ABPM is a technology which permits the automatic determination of an individual's blood pressure (BP) at relatively frequent predetermined periodic intervals. With the exception of sleeptime BP, there are two other technologies which can measure BP away from the office-clinic environment. These are manual BP measurement and semi-automatic BP measurement. Further comparative studies are necessary in order to clearly and unambiguously define the roles of these three technologies in relation to each other.
