The report of the work and recommendations from the Panel to evaluate the U.S. Standard Certificates and Reports. This panel was appointed to evaluate the data provided for the national vital statistics program. The U.S. Standard Certificates and Reports of Live Birth, Death, Fetal Death, Induced Termination of Pregnancy, Marriage, and Divorce serve as the basis for the collection of data for the national vital statistics program. Therefore, the panel was given the task of evaluating the format and content of the existing standards and making recommendations for change. Based on their own knowledge and input from users and providers of vital statistics data throughout the country, the panel made recommendations for the content and format of new Standard Certificates and Reports. This report contains a discussion of the evaluation process followed by the panel, how they obtained input, and justifications for their recommendations.
