摘要

Advanced natural gas-fired indirect heating and melting systems potentially offer great advantages over conventional heating and melting systems. The report reviews developments in high-temperature engineering materials and advanced system designs and their role in evolving highly efficient and cost-effective indirect heating and melting systems for existing and new industrial processes. Present ceramic materials development is capable of producing radiant heater tubes operable to 3000 F, well beyond the limit for metallic materials, and silicon carbide is thus far the best material for this application. Further work is needed to improve properties, advance material and component technology, and reduce costs. Recommendations are given for achieving these goals and planning for future development of advanced gas-fired industrial process systems.
