Preliminary Study of Head and Neck Trauma of Motor Vehicle Crashes and Their Consequences. Volume 1. Analysis

A multidisciplinary study of serious head and neck injury to non-ejected occupants of automobiles involved in road crashes is described. Medical Data on patients are presented and compared with those of the total contemporary patient population treated at an urban, Level I Trauma Center. Crash biomechanics are described. A subset of study patients are assessed for the long-term psychosocial implications of their injuries. Detailed 'timelines' for six patients present vehicle and occupant kinematics during pre-crash and crash phases, information on medical care provided from the crash scene through hospital discharge, and the long-term psychosocial sequelae to the subject.
