Small business incubators have become important, cutting-edge tools in local enterprise development workshops. Incubators nurture indigenous entrepreneurs and product innovators by providing affordable rent, shared office services and facilities, and access to inexpensive, responsive business consulting services. This document reports on research that explored the incubator development process and the nature of enterprise support networks. The authors conclude that the main themes associated with the development of incubator facilities revolve around the notions of continuous change, patience, interlocking support networks and an entrepreneurial approach to managing the facility.
