Career Achievements of NIH (National Institutes of Health) Postdoctoral Trainees and Fellows, 1986

The report provides information about the career performance of scientists and health Professionals (M.D.s) who have received postdoctoral research training support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Their career achievements are described in comparison with other scientists and physicians not receiving such support. The report is the only source of substantive, current data on this subject. A companion study, 'Career Achievements of NIH Predoctoral Trainees and Fellows,' also conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, was published by NIH in January 1985 (NIH Pub. No. 85-2744). The current publication is intended to complement the earlier study and complete the description of the two major components (pre- and postdoctoral) of the NIH research training missions (NIH Pub. No. 86-2898, 234 pages).
