A three phase study conducted to: evaluate the extent and nature of consumer fears of irradiation, develop communication and education strategies to minimize fear reactions, and assess the potential impact of consumer acceptance of irradiated seafoods, on the industry - was performed under the auspices of the Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant program. Analysis of the studies' phases are: secondary source information analysis to evaluate existing irradiation information, and consumer research, to determine the psychological nature of reaction to irradiation technology, and consumer research to determine acceptance levels for alternative irradiated seafood product concepts.
