Industrywide Studies Report: A Walk-Through Survey of C. R. Bard, Inc., Murray Hill, New Jersey

The primary objective of the survey was to assess the feasibility of including the facility in the NIOSH mortality and industrial hygiene study of workers exposed to ETO. During the survey, industrial hygiene and personnel records were evaluated, and a walk-through survey of the plant was conducted in order to observe all production processes with potential for ETO exposure. Industrial hygiene monitoring for ETO was initiated in 1976. Personnel records were found to be adequate for the purposes of the mortality study. The facility meets all of the eligibility requirements as defined by the protocol, and therefore should be included in the NIOSH study. These requirements are (a) the plant must contribute at least 400 person-years, (b) the plant must have adequate personnel records or other records that can be used for identifying past and present workers exposed to ETO, and (c) the plant must not have any serious confounding exposure to a known leukemogen.
