Small-Scale Projects for Long-Term African Development: The Field Prospective. Report on the Preparatory Meeting for the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid's Meeting in Lome, Togo

In preparation for a June 1986 meeting to be held in Togo, the private-sector Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid met to synthesize ideas relating to the promotion of long-term development in Africa through small-scale projects. The report summarizes the meeting, beginning with discussion and agreement on: the Committee's position on eight points relating to the activities in Africa of private development organizations; the purpose and objectives of the Togo regional meeting; the meeting agenda. The report follows with brief summaries of updates on the Gramm-Rudman deficit reduction bill; legislation requiring private voluntary organizations to receive at least 20% of their funding for international activities from sources other than the U.S. Government in order to receive FY86 development assistance funds; the U.S. Congress' supplemental appropriation for Africa in response to the drought and resulting famine; a meeting of industrial country donors on the role of nongovernmental organizations in Africa.
