Leachate Collection and Gas Migration and Emission Problems at Landfills and Surface Impoundments

摘要

Clogging of leachate systems and gas migration and emission problems were evaluated at hazardous waste landfills and surface impoundments. Collective and preventive measures were identified along with research and development needs. The analysis used literature and information obtained by interviews with experts at 16 design firms, state regulatory agencies, and public organizations. Problems related to leachate collection systems and gas emissions can best be addressed through preventive measures involving design, construction, and operation practices.
