The text provides a twenty hour course in travel mode choice modeling, with worked examples, problems, and solutions. The text assumes familiarity with urban transportation planning issues and mathematics at the level of high school algebra. The renewed emphasis on transportation policy changes as a mechanism to improve air quality is the impetus for making the course available now. Disaggregate models are more policy sensitive than other methods, can take into account a wider range of policy variables, and can treat multimodal problems without difficulty. Policy changes that lend themselves to analysis by the models covered are pricing policies (e.g. energy taxes, cash-out of subsidized parking, employer subsidization of transit fares and increased use of tolls) and actions which change travel times (e.g. HOV lanes, ramps, or priority techniques, signal preemption by transit, or improved transit coverage.)
