Program of Federal/State/Local Cooperative Weather Modification Research: Design Consideration. Part 1. Hypothesis Description and Assessment

The committee was reconstituted in December, 1983, to review the on-going state operational programs in North Dakota and in Utah and to make initial studies of the Nevada and Illinois programs. The committee met for two days (December 19-20) in Bismarck, ND, to review the state operational program concerning the seeding of summer convective clouds. In the first week of January, the committee met with Utah personnel in Salt Lake City to be briefed on their winter cloud seeding program. Later that week the committee personnel traveled to Reno, Nevada, to review the Desert Research Institute's (DRI's) winter orographic cloud seeding program being carried out in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation's Sierra Cooperative Pilot Project. The purpose of the visit to DRI was to learn about the Nevada state program and to discuss hypotheses involved in the program.
