Development and Verification of Models of Freezing Tolerance for Douglas-fir Populations in the Inland Northwest

Fall frost injury to 159 seedlots of 2-year-old seedlings growing at a nursery in Coeur d'Alene, ID, provided an opportunity to verify experimental models that describe genetic variation in freezing tolerance to populations from the Inland Northwest. Results of three previous studies were updated and then were combined to provide a single model of freezing tolerance. Injury predicted by the model to nursery-grown seedlots was significantly correlated with the injury observed in the field.
