Training Budgets: Agency Budget Reductions in Response to the Balanced Budget Act

The authors received responses from 66 executive branch departments, major components of the Department of Defense, and independent agencies during March, April, and May 1986. The first three sections of the briefing report summarize the responses based on each agency's relative employment size. The authors further categorized the agencies into civilian and defense in recognition of the differing fiscal year 1986 budget reduction requirements that were imposed in response to the balanced budget act--4.3 percent for civilian agency programs and 4.9 percent for defense programs. Section four provides details on the objective, scope, methodology, and data limitations of the work.
