Built environment professionals have established through recent research that the physical setting can contribute significantly to the organizational effectiveness and productivity of office work. In contrast, the majority of traditional research efforts in office work productivity concentrated on organizational factors and communication and information technologies alone, and excluded for the most part the consideration of the physical setting's direct effect on performance and productivity. Moreover, economic analysis reveals that the potential magnitude of the office built environment's effect on national productivity can be greater than the contribution of all other construction processes or building-related productivities.
