Computed Tomography Techniques and Quality Assurance Programs in the Mid-1980's

The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) has been concerned for some time about a variety of issues related to the practice of computed tomography (CT). To obtain information on two of those issues, how CT systems are used in practice and the extent and nature of quality assurance activities, CDRH negotiated contracts for the collection of data with 21 States during Fiscal Years '83 and '84. In 421 'surveys', data were gathered on 40 different CT system models manufactured by 11 different firms. The report presents an analysis of the data collected. The general conclusions drawn from the data are also presented in the report.
