Economic Development and International Trade: An Institute for Government Officials

Twenty-two government officials and state legislators from Idaho, Oregon and Washington assembled in Portland, Oregon, in December 1985 to participate in a discussion of the potential international trade impacts on economic development. These officials interacted in a series of five decisionmaking exercises in a case setting. As a result, state and legislative officials felt they were better able to define issues relating to international trade and increased confidence in their ability to influence economic development through international trade. Participants developed a new awareness that they shared common interests and that they should consider joint efforts in further economic development through international trade.
