Community Development Credit Union: An Alternative Financial Institution for Local Economic Development (A Case Study of the Citizen's Coalition Federal Credit Union)

The case study results from a national demonstration project conducted by the National Organization of Black County Officials and describes the creation and operation of the Citizens' Coalition Federal Credit Union of Pontiac, Michigan. It may be used as a model for other communities seeking vehicles to foster economic development in low income communities. The report details how and why one community development credit union came into existence, the geographic field of membership it serves, the nature and extent of its public unit deposits and its business lending activities. The study also provides useful information about the process of establishing and operating any community development credit union.
