Research on Vertical Turbulent Dispersion of Oil Droplets and Oiled Particles: Literature Review

The report is a literature review of the vertical turbulent dispersion of oil droplets and oiled particles in the ocean environment. References were selected with respect to their usefulness for the performance of subsequent laboratory measurements of vertical turbulent dispersion to be performed by the authors. Major sections of the review include oil properties, fate of oil in the ocean, dispersion, suspended particulate matter properties, oil-suspended particulate matter interaction, ocean conditions (as related to turbulent dispersion), and the simulation of ocean conditions in laboratory models. The report focuses upon turbulence conditions in the surf, coastal and deep water ocean zones.
