Mechanical Properties of Steel-to-Steel Adhesive Bonds

Static mechanical properties of steel-to-steel bonds are studied. The suitability of linear viscoelastic constitutive models for predicting stress-strain behavior is discussed. The static (cohesive) strength of bonds in various stress states is determined. Theories of adhesion are reviewed. Effects of diffusion of water on adhesives and on adhesion are discussed. Data from bond durability tests and from accelerated aging tests are reported. The correlation between water concentration and the presence of adhesion failures is discussed.
