An efficient multigrid method for the solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes (CNS) equations was described by Shaw and Wesseling (1986). This algorithm was designed such that the resulting computer program was readily amenable to vectorization. The report describes the subsequent process of vectorization giving comparisons of scalar and vector timings on a CRAY-1S. Of particular interest is the vectorization of the Van Leer flux splitting method, the implementation of which constitutes one of the most time consuming elements in the algorithm.
