Feasibility of Corvina Aquaculture for Population Enhancement and Food Production: Phase 1 Report

The orangemouth corvina, Cynoscion xanthulus, appears to have considerable potential for intensive aquaculture. A preliminary investigation of the life history and biology of the species was undertaken which indicated that corvina exhibit very rapid growth, and can adapt to culture in circular tanks very readily. They can be spawned in captivity, and it is probable that reliable spawning and larval rearing techniques can be developed which will be applicable on a commercial scale basis. The ability of the semi-tropical species to tolerate and exhibit rapid growth in very warm seawater makes it an excellent species to take advantage of the waste heat energy in thermal effluent from coastal power plants.
