Beautiful Goetzea (Goetzea elegans) Recovery Plan

The primary objective of this recovery plan is to provide guidance for reversing the decline of Goetzea elegans and restore the species to a stable, secure, and self-sustaining condition, thereby permitting its reclassification from endangered to threatened status. Reclassification would be considered when, at a minimum, (1) the principal population in Quebrada Bellaca, Puerto Rico, is placed under protective status, and (2) at least three new, self-perpetuating populations have been established within appropriate units of the Commonwealth Forest Syste, or on suitable Federal land within the Caribbean National Forest.
